Kyneton K-12 Education Plan

I have spoken with excitement in the past about the Kyneton K-12 education plan. During 2008 and 2009 I was pleased to work with Kyneton Secondary College and Kyneton Primary School as they reviewed their education aspirations for the future. With funding support from the former government, they were able to develop a very exciting plan, which included relocating both the primary school and the kindergarten to the present secondary college site. That would involve using not only the Kyneton Secondary College land but also the land adjacent to it, which has been used by the Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE. It is important that that land continues to be made available for this important project. The schools had hoped they would get funding to see construction work on this plan undertaken, but unfortunately that has not been the case to date.

Today I want to again urge the Minister for Education, as I have done before, to ensure that the Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE site is not sold off. This is a risk after announcements that were made last week, and I want to ensure that the site remains safe for the benefit of the Kyneton K-12 plan. More importantly, I want the minister to allocate funding in the current budget process to this exciting plan, which the education community of Kyneton is very enthusiastic about, so that it becomes a reality. I want to see that happen in the forthcoming budget too.
