Smythesdale Business, Health and Community Hub

February 20, 2014

I was pleased to travel to Smythesdale last week and visit The Well, not a hole in the ground but an innovative business, health and community hub opened in 2008 as a $1.4 million project undertaken by Golden Plains Shire Council with $150 000 in funding from the former government.

Daylesford Community Facility

February 20, 2014

Having worked with many residents of the Daylesford area, most notably Allan and Faye McLeod, to advance plans for an exciting, new and much-needed community facility at Victoria Park, Daylesford, I am disappointed to note that Hepburn Shire Council's application for $2.5 million from the federal government's Regional Development Australia round 5 grants has been cancelled by the Abbott government.

I have an issue to raise with the Minister for Roads. I ask him to take action to construct pedestrian crossways at four priority sites in the new Buninyong electorate in the Ballarat region.

February 5, 2014

I am pleased, along with the chair, the member for Rodney, who has just spoken, to speak on the report released today on opportunities for people to use telecommuting and e-business to work remotely in rural and regional Victoria -- a mouthful of a title but an important issue. The committee travelled extensively around Victoria to hear the views of rural and regional Victorians on this important issue.

Buninyong & District Community Association

February 4, 2014

In December I attended the monthly meeting of the Buninyong & District Community Association to again find that the former Buninyong Progress Association is stronger than ever due to the commitment of many very capable community representatives. As well as making good progress in developing and promoting community events, including a monthly farmers market, the group has been attempting to work with the City of Ballarat and VicRoads to improve the amenity of the thriving village of Buninyong.

February 4, 2014

In regard to the legislation that is before us tonight, I along with other members on this side of the house speak in opposition to the Travel Agents Repeal Bill 2013.
