I have spoken with excitement in the past about the Kyneton K-12 education plan. During 2008 and 2009 I was pleased to work with Kyneton Secondary College and Kyneton Primary School as they reviewed their education aspirations for the future.

I have a matter to raise for the attention of the Minister for Roads. I will get straight to the point initially. I am asking the minister to take action to sign off on the necessary land purchases to allow for the redevelopment of the Geelong Road-Whitehorse Road roundabout. I also ask the minister to respond to requests made from land-holders to advise them and the whole community of that area as to what is happening and to be honest with them.
As a former teacher and somebody who taught in the secondary system both in state schools and in the Catholic system for nearly 20 years, like my colleagues on this side of the house I am very passionate about education. We know that education is so important as a means of supporting our young people on a pathway through to a great future, not just to benefit themselves but to benefit our community into the future. I am passionate in my belief that a good education system has to be about education for all.
I wish to raise an issue for the attention of the Premier -- the new Premier, I guess, in this case. It relates to the increase in crime across my electorate as identified in the latest crime statistics. I ask that the Premier take real, balanced action to assist in bringing down this alarming increase.
I have spoken about the need to progress upgrade works on the Ballarat-Buninyong Road on numerous occasions in the hope of persuading this government to treat them as a priority. I pointed out to the Minister for Roads that $2 million was allocated by the Brumby government in its last budget, and I also note that this government has allocated over $2 million in the last two years towards this project.
I am pleased to make my contribution to the debate on this piece of legislation, which relates to the water industry and makes some changes that are relatively minor in view of the changes we have seen made over previous years.
