TIME TO PREPARE FOR BUSHFIRE SEASON
Labor MP Geoff Howard has urged residents of fire prone areas to prepare early for the fire season.
Geoff Howard was joined by Buninyong Brigade Captain Marc Cannan and fire fighter Ash Cahir of the Buninyong fire brigade to help clear a local homestead of excess fuel.
The township of Buninyong has been assessed as having an extreme bushfire or grassfire risk in accordance with the Victorian Fire Risk Register.
“We are unfortunately all too familiar with the devastation of bushfire,” Mr Howard said.
‘Now is the time to clean up around your property. Mow regularly, remove excess ground fuel, and clean the gutters and downpipes.
‘It is also a good time to make sure you and your family have a bush fire survival plan that everyone know about.
The CFA Buninyong Community Information Guide urges residents to learn about the bushfire or grassfire risk and history in your area, assess and prepare the capability of your property to withstand a fire and to be aware it is impossible for emergency services to protect every individual home or property.
Brigade Captain Marc Cannan called on locals and visitors to be fire aware and have a fire plan even if you live in town.
‘A well thought out plan will help you take action and avoid making last minute decisions that could prove deadly during a bushfire.
Be aware it is impossible for emergency services to protect every individual home or property.
