SMYTHESDALE BULLDOGS CELEBRATE WEATHERPROOF OVAL

The Smythesdale Football Netball club can look forward to greener pastures thanks to a brand new drainage system at Woady Yaloak Recreational Reserve.

Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard today officially launched the new drainage system, made possible thanks to $100,000 in funding from the Andrews Labor Government’s Country Football and Netball Program.

The project involved the installation of a new oval subsurface drainage system, a storm water drainage outlet system and improving the oval’s surface.

It will ensure the Bulldogs can maintain the integrity of the oval’s surface for training and competition, regardless of the elements.

It will also provide a welcome boost to the Buninyong sports community, which uses the oval for a range of sport and active recreation activities.

That means locals can get on the field when they want, whether as a player, umpire or volunteer.

The Country Football and Netball Program is a partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to help football and netball clubs across the state, because everybody deserves equal facilities, no matter where they live.

In three years the program has invested $9.7 million supporting more than 100 projects across regional and rural Victoria – 25 projects in this round alone.

Just down the road construction of new cricket nets has been completed at Rokewood Recreation Reserve thanks to $67,000 funding from our Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The new nets replace ones that were well past their use-by date and are located in a much safer location. They will help the Rokewood Cricket Club cater to growing demand.

These two projects are part of the Labor Government’s strong commitment to sport and active recreation, and to encourage all Victorians to get out there and get active.

That’s why we’ve invested almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to ensure sport and active recreation go from strength to strength.

Mr Howard acknowledged project partner Golden Plains Shire Council for its commitment to progressing the projects as quickly as possible.
