SEBASTOPOL PRIMARY STUDENTS ON SONG
Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard visited Sebastopol Primary School to announce $3,856 to purchase new musical instruments for the school.
“Thanks to this funding, Sebastopol Primary will have 24 string players strumming, 20 drummers drumming and a new keyboard to get the place jumping,” Mr Howard said.
“The Andrews Labor Government’s Musical Instruments Grants program gives eligible schools the chance to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to buy musical instruments.
“Research shows that exposure to music and music education enhances student engagement and wellbeing, improves academic performance and literacy results.
“Learning an instrument is also a lot of fun giving kids an opportunity to get together and collaborate.”
The grants are part of the Labor Government’s $2 million Music in Schools initiative, which will also provide professional training for hundreds of Victorian teachers so that schools can establish quality music programs.
