The local community is celebrating the transformation of a local public open space into the Miners Rest Community Park.

Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard formally opened the park which received $260,000 from the Victorian Government.

“People in Miners Rest will be able make the most of these upgraded facilities, which include new pathways, landscaping, a rotunda, shade structures, barbecues, a bike track and basketball court,” Mr Howard said.

“These improvements will enhance options for people to enjoy the outdoors and I expect we will see more than miners using these facilities for rest, relaxation and recreation.

“It’s important that people have opportunities to be involved in physical activity outdoors as we know it is one of the most effective ways to achieving a healthy lifestyle.

“I’d like to congratulate the local community for their support of this project, as they recognise that this rapidly growing community needs a place for people young and old to come together.”

In addition to the funding from the Victorian Government, the City of Ballarat contributed $135,000 and the local community delivered $15,000 in-kind works to the $405,000 project.
