The communities of Ballarat and surrounds have been left on their own by the Napthine Government’s cuts to the CFA as a new forecast shows Victoria is facing a worse than predicted fire season.

The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) on Bushfire and Natural Hazards last week released updated modelling revealing an increased bushfire risk in Victoria.

The report says that as a result of the worsening fire conditions:  “…it is more likely that the resources required to fight bushfires from within a region will be insufficient…”

But instead of strengthening the CFA, the Napthine Liberal Government is slashing the number of CFA officers by 164 at the start of this worsening bushfire season.

Only an Andrews Labor Government will recruit 450 more firefighters and help the Country Fire Authority (CFA) respond to bushfires.

Quotes attributable to candidate for Buninyong, Geoff Howard

“Mr Napthine has declared war on our emergency services and it’s the people of Buninyoung who are suffering most.

“At a time when we face a real danger from bushfires, the Napthine Government is slashing the number of firefighters who can help protect our community.
“While Denis Napthine slashes the number of CFA officers, our community is literally left to burn.

“Under Mr Napthine there will be fewer CFA officers standing between the people of this region and the danger of bushfires.

“Only Labor will recruit 450 more firefighters to help protect our community from bushfires.
