MORE LOCAL LAKES STOCKED WITH TROUT
New stocks of brown trout and rainbow trout will be released into lakes across the region.
The Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard, was on hand at Cosgrave Reservoir in Creswick this morning for the release of 2,000 rainbow and brown trout.
Mr Howard said increasing fish stocks in local waterways is a key part of the Labor Government’s Target One Million plan for recreational fishing, which aims to grow participation to one million anglers by 2020.
“Improving fishing opportunities in waterways like Cosgrave Reservoir, Lake Burrumbeet and Bostock Reservoir in Ballan is a great way to attract newcomers to fishing and grow participation in regional communities,” Mr Howard said.
“Our Target One Million plan for recreational fishing has also helped fishing clubs attract new members and improve facilities, establish a marine stocking program with estuary perch and mulloway, and is ending commercial net fishing in Port Phillip Bay.
“Fishing is such an important recreational activity for many Victorians. I would much rather see kids casting a line than sitting at home on an iPad.
“Our Government is determined that we do our bit to make sure fishing is a fun, safe and rewarding activity for Victorians of all ages.”
