Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard today visited Sebastopol Men’s Shed to announce a $60,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government toward construction of their new shed.

“Working with the Sebas Men’s Shed team over the past two years, I have been amazed at the progress they have made from securing an interim shed, to funding for their new facility to be built on Vickers Street,” Mr Howard said.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Andrews Labor Government is making a significant contribution by awarding $60,000 to this project.

“President Les Shimmin and the men’s shed team have worked extremely hard to secure support from different levels of government, community organisations, local businesses and through a successful crowd funding campaign.

“I’d like to make special mention of Ballarat Community Health who have auspiced them from the beginning as well as providing a permanent home for the shed.

“The new facility will include a separated woodwork and metal work area, office space, training/presentation area, a kitchen, dining and lounge area, unisex toilet, disabled toilet and disability access.

“Men’s sheds are great places for men to meet, make social connections and actively participate in their communities.

“They enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of men and are a great asset to our community.”

The grant is part of a $1.2 million funding boost to build or refurbish 32 new or existing men’s sheds around Victoria.
