HIGH RISK INTERSECTION TO GIVE WAY FOR NEW ROUNDABOUT
Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard announced $2 million in funding to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Ballarat-Carngham Road and Haddon-Windermere Road to improve safety for local road users.
“The Andrews Labor Government is investing in regional roads, so that people can arrive home safe to their families,” Mr Howard said.
“This intersection has a history of serious crashes with nine occurring in the five year period ending 30 June 2014.
“It’s critical that investment is provided to make our regional roads safer by reducing the likelihood of crashes and serious injury.
“I’m pleased to announce that we’re delivering $2 million to install a roundabout, upgraded street lighting and a speed limit reduction from 100km/h to 80 km/h to ensure drivers slow down and scan for approaching vehicles.
“These safety improvements will make a significant difference for the 3,000 vehicles that use this road each day.”
The Safe System Road Infrastructure Program (SSRIP) is funded by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and is targeted at reducing the number of crashes on our roads, in particular run-off road crashes and head-on crashes.
Planning for the intersection improvements will commence this year with construction to begin in 2016.
