State Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard today joined Buninyong Cricket Club President, Chris Gordon and Junior players to celebrate funding of $2,970 for the club from round two of VicHealth’s Active Club Grants program.

“VicHealth is committed to promoting good health in our community and preventing chronic disease,” Mr Howard said.

“Preventative health is the key to living a healthy and happy life, with regular physical activity one of the most effective ways to achieving a healthy lifestyle.

“This funding will enable the club to purchase 10 new helmets, cricket balls, gloves and an In2Cricket kit to encourage young girls and boys to sharpen their cricket skills and get active.

“VicHealth’s Active Club Grants recognise the important role local clubs play in increasing physical activity and helping communities stay connected.”

In total, 296 Victorian clubs – 160 clubs in regional and rural Victoria and 136 clubs in metropolitan Melbourne – will receive grants as part of this round of the VicHealth Active Club Grants program, totalling $690,000.

The VicHealth Active Club Grants program has now provided a total of $1.3 million to 566 local sports and active recreation clubs in 2014-15.
