GOVERNMENT BACKS GOLDEN PLAINS COMMUNITIES
Smythesdale and Dereel are set to benefit from a range of community infrastructure upgrades that will improve access to health services and help make the Golden Plains region an even better place to live, work and visit.
Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard today officially opened the $996,000 Smythesdale Business and Wellbeing Hub expansion, and Dereel’s newly upgraded community hall.
The Smythesdale Business and Wellbeing Hub expansion has been delivered with $500,000 Victorian Government funding.
By upgrading the existing facility, the Hub will now be able to respond to the growing demand for professional services in Smythesdale and the surrounding areas.
The project includes new professional service rooms, a new multi-purpose room and links between the new and existing facilities. The improvements will enable a significant expansion to Ballarat Community Health diabetes, dietician, exercise/physiology programs and maternal and child health services.
In addition to improving access to health services, the multi-purpose room can also be used by locals for meetings and community-run yoga and meditation classes.
Dereel’s newly upgraded community hall will now be able to increase the range of activities and services provided to the community and improve the quality of the programs offered.
The Victorian Government’s $350,000 investment supported construction of the $570,000 project which includes performance lighting, acoustic treatment of the ceiling and walls, an upgraded entrance foyer, fully accessible toilets and the construction of a new kitchen, storage area, dining space and breakout room.
The Victorian Government is backing community infrastructure projects like the Smythesdale Business and Wellbeing Hub through its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund which supports initiatives across regional and rural Victoria that build critical infrastructure, secure jobs and strengthen communities.
