FUNDING BOOST AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL EMERGENCY SERVICES

State Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard today encouraged local volunteer emergency services organisations to apply for funding from the 2016-17 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP).

Mr Howard announced that the program was once again open, with the Andrews Labor Government providing $12.8 million to help emergency services organisations across the state to boost their resources.

“Last year’s funding round delivered over $98,000 to local CFA brigades across the Buninyong electorate to assist with the purchase of operational equipment, vehicles, and to deliver station improvements,” Mr Howard said.

“Grants of up to $100,000 are available through the VESEP, with the government contributing $2 for every $1 of funding contributed by local volunteer organisations.

“Volunteers play a vital role as part of our local emergency services, protecting lives and property in the community.

“It’s important that they receive access to the equipment they need to stay safe when responding to emergencies such as fires, floods, heatwaves, storms, water rescues or related incidents.”
