Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard today announced the local schools selected to partner with Foodbank Victoria to participate in the Andrews Labor Government’s Breakfast Clubs program.

Mr Howard visited Magpie Primary School to see the great work being done by volunteers coordinating the school’s breakfast program.

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, however, one in seven children currently arrive at school with an empty stomach,” Mr Howard said.

“Many of our local school communities do a fantastic job coordinating breakfast clubs to ensure that all children at the school get a healthy start to the day.

“The Andrews Labor Government’s Breakfast Clubs program will give these schools a hand, partnering with Foodbank Victoria to feed up to 25,000 kids in 500 of Victoria’s most disadvantaged government primary schools.

“We want to make sure each and every child gets the best opportunity to learn by starting off the day on a full stomach.

“The program also plays an important role building confidence and social development by bringing students together at the start of the day to share a meal.”

Local schools receiving support from the government’s breakfast club program include:

  • Cape Clear Primary School
  • Sebastopol Primary School
  • Canadian Lead Primary School
  • Phoenix P-12 Community College
  • Magpie Primary School

The new breakfast clubs will be up and running from the first day of the 2016 school year.
