Active Club Grants now open

Geoff Howard MP is calling on local sports and recreation clubs to apply for VicHealth grants of up to $3,000 each for essential sporting, injury prevention and management equipment.

Mr Howard today met with organisers from the Ballarat and District Soccer Association to announce that the grants were now open.

Ms Jennie Gilmer, Vice President of the Ballarat & District Soccer Association said that the B&DSA supported 13 clubs between Horsham, Castlemaine and Warrnambool with over 110 teams and 1500 players.

Local sports and recreation clubs will be able to apply for grants from VicHealth, which will run two rounds of funding, in September and again in January 2015.

Applications for the first round of Active Club Grants can be submitted now until 10 October 2014.

“Each year, Active Club Grants support more Victorians to become active,” Mr Howard said.

“It is so important we all keep active to combat chronic diseases and other health problems”

Mr Howard welcomed the Active Club Grants and congratulated VicHealth on the initiative.

For over 26 years, VicHealth has provided small grants to over 10,000 community sport and active recreation clubs across Victoria. The Active Club Grants recognise the important role local clubs play in increasing physical activity and helping communities stay connected.

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said Active Club Grants help clubs overcome two of the most common barriers to preventing people from taking part in sport and active recreation – cost and injury.

“These grants aim to make it a little easier for clubs to buy items or equipment to encourage people to join their club, and help them improve safety for those taking part,” Ms Rechter said.
