Pedestrians in Ballan are now safer thanks to the two new pedestrian crossings which have just been completed.

Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard was in Ballan today to open the new raised zebra crossings on Inglis Street as part of a $150,000 upgrade.

“Pedestrians, especially the elderly and residents with disabilities, will now feel safer when crossing the road to access the hospital and nursing home at this new crossing,” Mr Howard said.

“People can also cross with greater safely near Fisken Street, with the crossing there delivering improved connections to the shopping strip and recreational facilities.

“I’d like to thank the Ballan community for their valuable input into the project, with ideas at a community session held last December leading to the two raised zebra crossings being built, as opposed to a single crossing with lights.

“On average around 3,700 vehicles a day travel on Inglis Street – these crossings ensure Ballan remains a safe and vibrant place.”

Mr Howard also thanked VicRoads and Moorabool Shire for their part in working with the community to deliver a great outcome.
