Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard visited Warrenheip to inspect the transformation of 18 motel apartments into high-quality affordable student accommodation.

“Everybody should have a right to live in safe, secure and affordable housing,” Mr Howard said.

“I’m pleased to see these former motel apartments in Warrenheip get a new lease of life by transforming them into high-quality student accommodation.

“Comprising of 40 beds, these 18 self-contained apartments are connected to the NBN, include study areas, car parking on site, a tennis court and they are close to Federation University.

“Putting a roof over someone’s head is one of the most important ways you can provide them with the opportunity to unlock their potential.

“That’s why the Andrews Labor Government is delivering targeted high-quality housing to the people that need it most.”

Regional Development Victoria has funded $540,000 toward the refurbishment of the apartments with the project being delivered under the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).

“I’d like to congratulate the Elmstone Group for their fantastic work transforming these apartments while supporting local jobs.” Mr Howard concluded.

Elmstone Portfolio Manager, Imogen Corliss said it was important to deliver housing that would change outcomes for young people.

“It’s fantastic to be involved in such a great project that will help to transform the lives of those that will live here,” Ms Corliss said.

“With security and comfort at home, these students will be able to focus on their studies and their future.”
