$800,000 ARTS FUNDING BOOST FOR BALLARAT

Member for Wendouree, Sharon Knight MP and Member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard MP today welcomed over $800,000 in funding that will support the Art Gallery of Ballarat and Her Majesty’s Theatre over the next three years.

The funding is from Creative Victoria’s Regional Partnerships program; $10 million that the Andrews Labor Government will invest over the next three years to 33 arts venues across regional Victoria.

The Art Gallery of Ballarat will receive $450,000 and Her Majesty’s Theatre $285,000 to support professional programming and operations at the venues.

Further funding is also provided to the venues through the Engaging Audiences Program, which will provide opportunities to engage young people in the arts:

  • The Art Gallery of Ballarat will receive $30,000 for a program of workshops for parents and young children, delivered in the Gallery by local artists and educators.
  • Her Majesty’s, Ballarat will receive $50,000 to develop and pilot an interactive, immersive theatre piece that will be delivered via radio headphones which will support primary school students to engage with the history and imagine the future of Australia’s oldest purpose-built theatre.

This boost will ensure access to high quality arts and cultural experiences for communities across the state, increasing employment and tourism opportunities in regional Victoria and enable regional cultural facilities to leverage further investment and income.

This funding follows last week’s announcement of $1.65 million awarded to Ballarat arts and cultural organisations, including funding for the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, Sovereign Hill’s Gold Museum and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E.).
