Geoff has two children and his interests other than family and politics include bush walking, gardening and agriculture.
Geoff moved to Ballarat in 1982 to take up an appointment at Sacred Heart College, Ballarat East as a Maths/Science teacher.Since then he has been actively involved in community life in the Ballarat region. This has included nearly 10 years as a councillor for the City of Ballarat, when he represented the residents of Eureka and Canadian wards between 1989 and 1999. This included a term as Mayor in 1993-4.
Geoff Howard was elected to State Parliament in 1999 as the Member for Ballarat East. He was immediately appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment. After the November 2002 election he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture. Geoff has also served as the Chair of the Education and Training Committee and is currently serving as the deputy chair of the Rural and Regional Committee.
Geoff has a strong passion for education and training and the opportunity they provide for regional Victorians. He also believes in equal access to quality services and supports for regional people. Geoff works tirelessly to make sure that the states prosperity does not end at the metropolitan boundary but extends to all regional people wherever scattered across the large and small cities and towns of the Electorate of Buninyong.
